Connecting to institutional repositories via Shibboleth

Many research institutions and funders each have their own sets of requirements as to which repository should be used to archive their publications. This landscape is hard to navigate for researchers and we think Dissemin can help.

We are delighted to announce that CAPSH, the non-profit association that runs Dissemin, has been accepted as a partner by RENATER, the communications network provider for French research institutions, to provide access to the Edugain network. This will allow us to authenticate users via Shibboleth, a system which federates institutional authentication mechanisms worlwide into a unified interface. With this system, we hope to be able to propose a personalized experience to our users, which could deposit articles in the repository mandated by their institution via Dissemin.

Authentication with ORCID will, of course, still be possible.

This new Dissemin feature is developed by the OpenIng project, run by TU Darmstadt, TU Braunschweig and the University of Stuttgart, which integrate their institutional repositories in the platform.

Un grand nombre d'acteurs du monde de la recherche ont leurs propres politiques spécifiant où leurs publications scientifiques doivent être archivées. Les chercheurs ont du mal à s'orienter dans cet environnement et nous pensons que Dissemin peut les aider.

Nous sommes heureux d'annoncer que CAPSH, l'association à but non lucratif qui héberge Dissemin, est maintenant un partenaire de RENATER, le réseau numérique de l'enseignement supérieur et de la recherche en France, pour nous donner accès au réseau Edugain. Cela nous permettra d'authentifier nos utilisateurs via Shibboleth, un système qui fédère les mécanismes d'authentification institutionnels du monde entier en une interface unifiée. Grâce à ce système, nous espérons pouvoir bientôt proposer une expérience personnalisée pour nos utilisateurs, qui pourraient utiliser Dissemin pour déposer leurs publications dans le dépôt mandaté par leur institution.

L'authentification via ORCID restera bien sûr possible.

Cette nouvelle fonctionnalité est développée dans Dissemin par le projet OpenIng, mené par TU Darmstadt, TU Braunschweig et l'Université de Stuttgart, qui ont intégré leurs archives institutionelles dans la plateforme.
